01 · Why it matters

XMP is the baseline, not the ceiling

Enabled XMP and forgot about it? That is a basic compatibility profile, not a speed one. Manual timing tuning gives +5-15% in games where memory latency matters. CS2, Valorant, Warzone: anything where 1% lows matter gets a boost. Micro-stutters go away and the picture is smoother.

Stage · 01
XMP and frequency
  • We enable XMP/EXPO if it is not on yet
  • We check stability, this is the baseline
  • If the memory and the controller can handle it, we push above XMP
  • DDR4-3200 can run stable at 3600 or 3800
  • DDR4-3600 often reaches 4000+
Stage · 02
Timings
  • tCL (CAS Latency), the primary timing
  • tRCD, row access time
  • tRP, row precharge time
  • tRAS, row active time
  • DDR4-3600 CL16 usually drops to CL14-15 at the same or a higher frequency
Stage · 03
Sub-timings and voltage
  • tRFC (refresh time), one of the most important
  • tRC, tRRD, tFAW, tWR and dozens of others
  • Sub-timings add +3-7% on top of the primary ones
  • DRAM voltage: safe range 1.35-1.45V (Samsung B-die up to 1.50V)
  • We find the lowest voltage at which everything stays stable
02 · Benchmarks

XMP versus manual tuning

What matters most here is the 1% low: these are the frames that decide whether you feel smoothness or micro-stutters. Latency drops, frequency rises, and the minimum FPS climbs up.

03 · Stability

We test every parameter

Unstable memory means crashes, blue screens and corrupted data. That is why we run stress tests. If we find an error, we roll back the parameter and look for a stable value.

TestMem5

Extreme config

At least 3 passes, around an hour. The main test for memory errors.

Karhu

RAM Test

We bring it in when needed for an extra check.

AIDA64

Memory Benchmark

We measure bandwidth and latency before and after.

Real games

30+ minutes

The final check is in your own games, not just in synthetic benchmarks.

How it works

We start with XMP, raise the frequency, tighten the primary timings, then the sub-timings, running a stress test at every step. Every parameter is reversible: you can restore the default settings in the BIOS.

04 · Compatibility

The ceiling depends on the platform

The memory controller in the CPU determines how high you can overclock. We pick the frequency to match your platform.

Who it is for

You want to squeeze everything out of DDR4 before moving to DDR5. Samsung B-die or other good chips. You care about 1% lows and no micro-stutters. XMP is on but you want more.

06 · Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can any DDR4 be overclocked?

Yes, but the result depends on the chips. Samsung B-die gives the best results. Hynix CJR/DJR and Micron Rev.E also overclock well. Budget modules will show a modest but noticeable gain. We identify the chips before starting and tell you what to expect.

Will I lose my warranty?

Overclocking through the BIOS leaves no trace. If you need to make a warranty claim, you reset the settings to default. The manufacturer cannot tell the memory was running overclocked.

Why is it more expensive than GPU overclocking?

Memory overclocking is the most time-consuming. Dozens of parameters, each one needs testing. A single TestMem5 run takes 20-40 minutes, and there can be 5-10 of those runs. The whole process: 2-3 hours.

What if the memory turns out unstable?

If the stress test finds an error, we roll back the parameter and look for a stable value. In the end you get only a verified profile. Any setting can be restored to default in the BIOS.
